1. At the time hamlet's monologue is given, he's the only one on stage and it reflects his inner thoughts.

Hamlet is talking about father, showing his feelings and expresses all of his emotions in this soliloquy. He wanted to even kill himself but that is a sin.

1.) it is to be considered a soliloquy because everyone leaves and hamlet says what he is thinking out loud.

1) The fact that he is alone on stage, and expressing his thoughts shows that, that scene is a soliloquy. Also, the fact that he is telling the audience what he intends to do, and why.

What he means by that is, his mother remarried so quickly that, hamlet thinks she doesn't really care for hamlet's father. This is because he feels she forgot him so quickly.

ReplyDeleteI know that this is the same quote you used today in class, but it was the best one that relates to a soliloquy (and its because Im partially lazy).
Soliloquy - A character's way of speaking his or her mind. This can be seen as intentionally, or the character literally speaking their own thoughts aloud.
The soliloquy is a just for the audience to pick up on the person's real thoughts or opinion, without feeling stupid
Hamlet makes the statement that his mother is "weak-spirited". So weak, that she re-married days after her husband died. So the obvious conclusion to be seen is that, Hamlet thinks his mother can't hold her own because she's a woman. (in which case I'm assuming its either a sexist term for the need of a husband, or hamlet is just calling his mother on her B.S.)
